Simon, fellow seniors pace volleyball in 3-0 win over Bay Path

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Senior Mar Simon tied her career high with 17 kills on 27 attacks to lead the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-21) victory over Bay Path University on Friday night in Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.

Simon (Miami, Fla.) was on fire throughout the match, registering seven kills in the opening set and five more in the following two, accounting for a match-high 19 points. Simon was charged with three errors on 27 attempts for a .519 attack percentage in the match, leading the Lyons to a .172 rate as a team.

More seniors came up big for the Lyons, with captain Sierra West (Longmont, Colo.) getting the start and recording 14 digs, 10 more than her previous collegiate high. Marion Abeja (Kumi, Uganda) had a strong all-around performance with 22 assists, six digs, two blocks, three service aces and four kills on seven attempts (.571). And senior captain McKenna Crosby (Jonesborough, Tenn.) contributed six kills on 20 attempts (.150) wiht three aces and three blocks.

Sophomore libero Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.) had a match-high 19 digs for Mount Holyoke.

Bay Path (3-8) received 12 kills on 32 attempts (.219) from Anastasiya Tsetsko, while captain Lilly Kibbe added six kills and a team-high 12 digs. Zyiasia Knighton added 11 digs for the Wildcats, while Michelle Santiago (10 assists) and KyLee Finch split setting duties.

The Lyons (5-6) return to NEWMAC play on Saturday at 1:30pm with a match at No. 22 nationally ranked Babson.
