Simon stands out in volleyball's loss at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior Mar Simon had a standout match for the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team, but the Lyons couldn't avoid a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) loss at NEWMAC rival Clark University on Tuesday night.

Simon (Miami, Fla.) led the Lyons (4-6, 0-3 NEWMAC) in kills (6) and hitting percentage (.294), and ranked second on the team in digs with eight.

The host Cougars (7-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) attacked at a .250 rate as a team compared to .030 for the Lyons, led by the duo of Victoria Pastor (13 kills, .400) and Claudia Rivera (13 kills, .250). Camille Flurry added six kills on 10 attempts (.500), while Yvanna Torres (20 assists) and Margarita Perez Maza (17 assists) paced the offense.

Mount Holyoke first-year Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wis.) shared the team lead in kills with six to go with seven digs. Sophomore Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.) had a team-high 15 digs and senior Marion Abeja (Kumi, Uganda) passed out 14 assists to go with seven digs.

The Lyons return home for a non-conference match against Bay Path University Friday at 7pm.
