Volleyball Splits Tri-Match Action; Defeats Worcester State

WESTON, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team defeated Worcester State University, but fell to Regis College in tri-match action on Saturday. The Lyons notched a hard-fought, 3-2 win against the Lancers before shouldering a 3-0 loss to the host Pride in the final game of the day. MHC moves to 6-8 on the season.

Mount Holyoke College 3, Worcester State University 2 (19-25, 12-25, 25-23, 25-10, 15-9)

Mount Holyoke rallied back from a 2-0 set deficit and defeated Worcester State in five sets. The Lyons were led by Jamesa Allen (Orlando, Fla.) who recorded a match-high 11 kills and five blocks. Joy Maran (Santa Fe, N.M.) added five kills, five digs, two service aces and a block. Natalie Lyon (Oakton, Va.) paced the offensive attack with a game-high 30 assist and also chipped in on defense with 13 digs.

The Lancers were led on offense by Jennifer Cabral, who recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a game-high 17 digs. Cabral also chipped in with four assists, three blocks and three service aces. Emily Carens added eight kills, eight digs and one block, while Jamika Townsend had an all-around game as she dished out 28 assist, made 10 digs on defense, recorded six kills and had two service aces.

Regis College 3, Mount Holyoke College 0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-14)

Regis wrapped up the afternoon with a 3-0 sweep of Mount Holyoke behind nine kills from Sydney Trusty. Graciella Molinari added eight more kills to her total on the day, while Rachel Bartels and Nicole Connolly posted six kills apiece. Connolly also added eight digs, four aces, and a pair of blocks. Crystina Lathrop handed out a match-high 27 assists to go with a pair of aces and six digs. Caroline Fuentes had another strong game with a team-high nine digs and six service aces.

Mount Holyoke's Joy Maran and Isabell Linde (Red Bank, N.J.) had four kills each, while Sarah Caggiano (Leondardtown, Md.) and Emma Sweeting (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) added three kills apiece. Natalie Lyon posted 14 assists to go with eight digs, while Sweeting led the defense with 10 digs. Caggiano and Jamesa Allen combined for five total blocks on the afternoon.
