Track and Field Shines at Boston University and MIT This Weekend

Cambridge, Mass. - February 15, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field team had a busy weekend as the Lyons had student-athletes competing at the David Hemery Invitational, hosted by Boston University on Friday, before heading over to the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted at MIT on Saturday.

It was an exciting Friday night at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational for Mount Holyoke College as six student-athletes posted career-best times, and Hannah Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) broke her own indoor track and field record in the women's 5k, posting a time of 17:18.75. Madeline Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) was not far behind, recording a career-best time of 17:18.86.

In the 800 meter run, both Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) and Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) registered personal-best times, as Jacob produced the program's No. 2 all-time result with a mark of 2:20.21, followed by Ravino's time of 2:29.95. In the 200 meter dash, Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass.) posted a career-best and No. 5 all-time mark of 26.76 seconds, while in the 1000 meter run, Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) recorded the No. 6 all-time and career-best time of 3:09.74.

Additionally, Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) had a season-best performance in the women's 3k, posting a time of 10:52.29, which was also the seventh-best time in indoor track and field program history. 

Both of the Rieders' 5k times, as well as Nash's performance in the 1000 and Jacob's performance in the 800 were qualifying marks for the Division III New England Championship later this season. 

Beginning with the 60 meter dash on Saturday, Lucy Sternberg (Stonington, Conn.) posted a time of 8.75 seconds, which was a career-best time and the No. 10 all-time fastest mark at Mount Holyoke College. Caitlin Lynch (Princeton, Mass.) was just behind with a time of 8.78 seconds, which was also a personal-best time for the senior. Ravino had a career-best time in the 600 meter run, crossing in 1:51.01,  while in the 800 meter run, Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) posted a season-best and Division III New England qualifying time of 2:28.35, as she was trailed by Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.), who had a season-best time of 2:41.98 and Charlotte Lindblom (Takoma Park, Md.), who had a career-best time of 2:42.26 in the race.

Jacob continued her strong weekend with a win in the 1000 meter run, clocking in at a career-best time of 3:06.87, which was also the fourth-fastest mark in Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field program history. Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif.) took third in the women's 3k with a career-best time of 11:14.39, as she was trailed by four others who posted career-best times. Next was Katie Milligan (Scituate, Mass.), who clocked in at a career-best 11:41.46, then Olivia Griesmer (Austin, Texas), who crossed in a career-fastest time of 11:43.45. Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) was next with a career-best time of 11:53.28, then Marlena Klein (South Windsor, Conn.), who produced a career-best time of 12:06.25. 

Senior Kayla Dillon (Great Barrington, Mass.) posted a career-best time of 20:54.38 in the women's 5k, before the relays, where the 4x200 meter relay team of Leah Pendl-Robinson (Branford, Conn.), Sternberg, Rosemary Geib (Jamestown, R.I.) and Lynch combined for a time of 1:57.16, which was a season best. In the 4x800 meter relay, the team of Raney, Nash, Ravino and Jacob came in at 10:10.91, which was No. 4 all-time at Mount Holyoke College. 

Mount Holyoke College will now gear up for the Division III New England Championships, which will be hosted at Middlebury College on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, February 29.
