Track and Field Competes at Boston University and Springfield College

Springfield, Mass. - January 25, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team had a pair of meets this past weekend with student-athletes competing at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday night and Springfield College Massasoit Classic on Saturday.

On Friday, first-year Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) posted a time of 2:30.14 in the 800 meter run, before Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) posted a time of 5:16.37 in the mile, followed by Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.), who posted a time of 5:30.11. Jacob's time of 5:16.37 is now No. 2 all time for the Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field program, while Nash's mark of 5:30.11 is No. 8, passing her own mark of 5:31.64 from the 2018-19 season.

Racing in the women's 5k, juniors Hannah Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) and Madeline Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) continued their successful junior season as Hannah Rieders posted a time of 17:39.02, breaking the previous Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field program record of 18:12.50, set by Meghan Lynch during the 2008 season. Madeline Rieders also clocked in at 17:39.28 in the race. The Rieders' times were also Top 5 marks in NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field this season. 

On Saturday, the Massasoit Classic at Springfield College started off with the 60 meter dash prelims, where Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass.) had the Lyons' best finish, taking seventh in the prelims with a career-best time of 8.34 seconds, before finishing eighth in the finals, crossing in 8.41 seconds.

In the 200 meter dash, Rosemary Geib (Jamestown, R.I.) and Caitlin Lynch (Princeton, Mass.) finished back-to-back with Geib posting a time of 29.50 seconds, followed by Lynch's time of 29.54 seconds. 

In the 800 meter run, Eliza Butler (Scarsdale, N.Y.) took sixth overall with a personal-best time of 2:40.32, while Charlotte Lindblom (Takoma Park, Md.) was next with a mark of 2:43.83, her career best. Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.) finished 12th overall with a season-best time of 2:46.84. 

On short rest, Jacob had an impressive result in the 1000 meter run, taking fifth with a time of 3:12.93, which was a career-best and the ninth-best time in indoor track and field program history, while Nash was sixth with a time of 3:14.30, a personal best.

Sophomore Sarah Hyde (Arlington, Mass.) led the Lyons in the one mile run, clocking in at a personal-best time of 5:43.50, while Katie Milligan (Scituate, Mass.) also had a career-best time of 5:53.61. Senior Kayla Dillon (Great Barrington, Mass.) also had a season-best time of 6:15.20 in the event.

Senior Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif.) led the Lyons in the women's 3k, as she posted a season-best time of 11:37.64, just ahead of Hyde, who clocked in at a personal-best 11:37.66. Sophia Gronbeck (Westfield, Mass.) was next with a season-best time of 11:38.21. Milligan posted a career-best time of 11:55.97 and Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) followed with a career-best time of 12:00.58. First-year Marlena Klein (South Windsor, Conn.) also posted a career-best time of 12:40.70, and also notching season-best times in the women's 3k was Dillon (12:35.55) and Sammi Craig (Austin, Texas), who clocked in at 12:43.81. 

First-year Olivia Griesmer (Austin, Texas) was the lone competitor in the women's 5k, and posted a time of 20:38.51. Wohlin was third in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, landing a spot in the finals with a time of 9.83 seconds, where she took sixth with a mark of 10.60 seconds. The 4x400 relay team of Ravino, Butler, Rodman and Lindblom placing fourth with a combined time of 4:39.10. 

In the field events, Lynch took eighth overall in the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters, while in the pole vault, Leah Pendl-Robinson (Branford, Conn.) posted a seventh-place mark of 2.35 meters. In the triple jump, Wohlin was ninth with a mark of 9.77 meters.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will head to the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational, hosted in Middletown, Conn. on Saturday, February 1.
