Track & Field Competes at Smith's Pioneer Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College track and field team was in action on Saturday, competing at the Pioneer Invitational, hosted by Smith College. In the non-team scoring event, the Lyons saw several outstanding performances, led by senior Elizabeth DeLeon.

DeLeon won the 1500-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 5:03.02. She also finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.78. Also performing well in the same events was sophomore Mia Barnes, who was sixth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:11.88. She also placed 16th in the 800m, hitting the finish line with a time of 2:36.40.

First year Veneta Cholakova also finished strong for the Lyons, earning 14th in the 800-meter with a time of 2:35.86. She then crossed the line in a time of 5:20.87 in the 1500 – good for 16th overall.

In the 100-meter dash, first year Donari Yahzid was 12th overall with a time of 14.09, while classmate Zahkeyah Allen finished in a time of 14.53, which was 21st overall.

Rounding out the efforts was first year Destiny Williams, who was 22nd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.27. Sophomore Shante Henderson was also solid in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish in a time of 20.20.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday.
