Track & Field Competes at Springfield's Massasoit Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College track & field team was back in action on Saturday, competing at the 2016 Massasoit Invitational, hosted by Springfield College. The Lyons were paced by a number of solid efforts, including the 4x800 meter relay team which claimed victory over several top schools. The host Pride claimed this year's title.

The relay team, comprised of senior Elizabeth DeLeon, sophomore Mia Barnes, first year Corrin Moss and sophomore Sunny Shan, the foursome posted a time of 10:19.38. The mark outpaced the relay squads from Eastern Connecticut State, Trinity and Springfield.

Shan then shined in the 800-meter run, posting a DIII New England qualifying time of 2:24.42 to finish second overall in the event. First year Emsie Cronin was 14th in the same event with a mark of 2:40.11. Classmate Ally Stoll placed 10th in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:34.78, while DeLeon was fifth in the 1000-meter run. She crossed the line in a time of 3:14.98, followed by sophomore Caroline Black, who was 11th with a mark of 3:49.37.

In the 1-mile event, DeLeon was fourth with a time of 5:28.63, while Barnes was fifth, crossing for a time of 5:41.36. Sophomore Hannah Gershone rounded out the performances as she placed third in the 3000-meter run, notching a time of 11:17.54.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next Saturday when it heads south to compete at the Wesleyan Invitational.
