Track & Field Competes at Springfield Outdoor Meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - It was a solid day of action for the Mount Holyoke College track & field team, which finished fourth overall at the Springfield College Outdoor Meet. The Lyons saw several strong efforts on the day, paced by a second-place finish by the 4x100 relay team.

The 4x100 relay foursome, which included first years Destiny Williams and Zahkeyah Allen, along with sophomore Maria Lewis and senior captain Camille Coklow, earned the runner-up finish behind the host Pride, crossing the line in a time of 54.95.

Coklow also had solid individual success on the afternoon, finishing third overall in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 12.52. That time was also an ECAC Division III and New England DIII qualifying time. First year Donari Yahzid crossed the line in 12th for the 100 in a time of 13.59, while Lewis, Allen and junior Kristyn Carter were 13th (13.69), 14th (13.94) and 15th (14.02), respectively.

In the 200-meter dash, first year Mara White was the Lyons top finisher in 13th with a mark of 29.75. Allen was close behind in 14th (29.77), followed by sophomore Shante Henderson in 15th (29.90) and Carter in 16th (30.00).

Sophomore Kelly Stevens went on to post a ninth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.68, while also placing sixth overall in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:24.03. Senior Elizabeth DeLeon ran to a fourth-place mark in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 19:00.07. Henderson went on to finish fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.26.

In the field events, Yahzid had a solid second-place finish in the long jump, posting a distance of 5.07 meters (16-07.75) - New England Division III qualifying time, while White was sixth overall in the event with a jump of 4.43 meters (14-06.50). The shot put competition saw Allen finish eighth overall with a throw of 8.66 meters (28-05.00), while Yahzid rounded out the action with a sixth-place finish in the javelin throw (25.59 meters - 83-11).

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it heads to Maine to compete in the Aloha Relays, hosted by Bowdoin College. Competition gets underway Friday with the Heptathlon and runs through Saturday.
