Tennis team sweeps in academic honors from ITA

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Each member of the Mount Holyoke College tennis team received ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, and the easily claimed ITA All-Academic Team status, as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its year-end academic awards for the 2022-23 academic year.

With an average GPA of 3.80 among eight team members, the Lyons far surpassed the ITA award standards.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, players must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above.

The entire squad of Mount Holyoke student-athletes getting their shine Thursday included Kennedy Bagley-Fortner '26 (Montclair, N.J.); Shweta Kiran Cavale '23 (Chennai, India); Annika Chai '25 (London, England); Jaskirat Kaur '26 (Mohali, India); Shanden Plyler '26 (Norwood, N.C.); Katie Rha '25 (Douglaston, N.Y.); Cal Smith '26 (Bridgewater, Mass.); and Kate Vavra '26 (Weston, Mass.).

In 2023, 1,204 Division III Women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 160 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
