Swimming & Diving Opens Action at NEWMAC Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. - Action at the 2015 NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships officially got underway on Thursday evening at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Through the first two events, the Lyons are seventh among the competing teams.

Mount Holyoke saw the foursome of senior Maya Lazarovich, first year Willa Holmes, sophomre Emily Craig and junior Cathleen Pruden finish sixth overall in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The group recorded a time of 7:56.59, which was just shy of the school record (7:56.08).

Additionally, the foursome of senior Rui Nozaki, first years Claire Beckett and Zahra Alley-Baktoo, along with senior Rachel Boynton, placed 18th in the same event, garnering critical points for the Lyons.

The men's 1-meter diving was the other event run on Thursday evening. Action continues at this year's championship on Friday with the morning preliminaries kicking-off at 10am. The finals will begin at 6pm. The meet continues through Sunday.
