Pruden Named Swimmer of the Week Again

BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly award winners and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Cathleen Pruden has been selected. The junior was named the Swimmer of the Week after recording three individual victories in a tough loss at Wellesley College last week.

The Raleigh, N.C. native, Pruden shined with three wins against the Blue. She won the 1000-freestyle in a time of 10:38.48, which was 10 seconds faster than the second place finisher and then touched the wall first in the 500-free with a mark of 5:11.91. She also won the 200-IM with a time of 2:11.42 and helped the 400-freestyle relay team win with a mark of 3:51.54.

It is the second straight weekly honor for Pruden, who posted nine wins the previous week, which included a school record, a pool record and a pair of NCAA B Cuts, as well as Seven Sisters Championship records.

This season, Pruden has won 31 events, notching at least two victories in every meet she has competed. Twenty-five of the 31 wins this season have been individual. In addition to re-setting multiple school records – of which she currently holds 14 – Pruden has also achieved four NCAA B Cuts in two different events.

Pruden, who is a former standout at the Ravenscroft School, has now garnered Swimmer of the Week honors by the NEWMAC three times this season. She was previously honored on November 11th after posting five individual wins and a pair of relay victories in two meets and on January 20th following her performance in a tri-meet and at the Seven Sisters Championship.

Mount Holyoke (5-3 dual meet) is back in action on February 7 when it hosts Smith College in the final home meet of the 2014-15 season. The Lyons will also honor their senior class against the Pioneers.
