NEW LONDON, Conn. - Powered by a three-goal first half, the Coast Guard Academy bested Mount Holyoke, 4-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) soccer action on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Bears move to 5-4-1 and 2-1-1 in conference play. The visiting Lyons are now 3-6-1 and 1-3-0 in the NEWMAC.

Coast Guard opened the game's scoring just 2:29 into the contest as Claire Hurley netted what would prove to be the game-winning goal off an assist from Sabrina Robertson. The Bears pushed the advantage to 2-0 in the 21st minute after Brielle Pearce fed the ball forward to Hurley, who notched her second tally of the night.

With just over 10 minutes remaining in the half, Coast Guard made it a 3-0 contest after Lizzie Miller sent the ball to Jocelyn Highsmith who fired it past Lyons goalie Amanda Manaster at 35:52.

Following the intermission, Coast Guard recorded its final goal off the foot of Rachel Samotis. She was assisted on the play by Felicia Lombardi.

In goal, Katharina Commins earned the victory and was not forced to make any saves through the opening half of action. She was relieved in the second stanza by Emily Rivera, who recorded two stops. For Mount Holyoke, Manaster shouldered the loss with one save over 83:41 minutes of action. Rookie Martha Rothenberg played the final 6:19 of the contest, making one stop.

Mount Holyoke is back in action on Saturday when it welcomes MIT for a NEWMAC tilt at 2pm on the MHC Soccer Field. Coast Guard is also on the pitch on Saturday, hosting Babson for a conference match at 2pm.
