SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield women's soccer team received goals from Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) and Maddy Bonavita (Wilbraham, Mass.) enroute to a 2-0 win over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.

With the win, the Pride is now 7-1-1 on the year and improves to 3-0 in conference play, while Mount Holyoke is now 3-5-1 overall with a 1-2 mark against league opponents. The maroon and white had 25 shots to the Lyons' one, which was on net and resulted in a save for the winning goalkeeper, Jackie Davis (Ringoes, N.J.). Her counterpart, Amanda Manaster (Beverly Hills, Calif.) was put to the test and made nine saves in the two-goal setback.

Springfield College earned the first chance of the game in the opening minute as Manaster turned away a scoring bid from Dale at the 58-second mark, before Alyana Sosa (Naugatuck, Conn.) sent one wide in the sixth minute, keeping the game scoreless. After a few more chances, the Pride finally broke through in the 20th minute when Dale converted to give the maroon and white a 1-0 lead after executing a give-and-go with Amanda Wright (Pittsfield, Mass.) inside the 18-yard box.

Springfield College would have five more shots on goal in the first half, as Dale and Wright each produced a pair, but Manaster was able to make six first-half saves to keep the Lyons within one.

The Pride kept applying pressure on the Mount Holyoke back line, and after a Lyons foul in the 66th minute, Sydney Wine (New Braintree, Mass.) sent a direct free-kick into the box, which was redirected into the back of the net by Bonavita to give the Pride an insurance tally and 2-0 advantage.

Springfield College kept attacking the Lyons as Wright and Wine each had shots on goal late in the game, but Manaster was able to pick up four more stops in the second half to keep it within two, resulting in a 2-0 victory for the hosts.

Up next, Springfield will travel to Clark on Tuesday and will take on the Cougars in conference play at 7 p.m. Mount Holyoke travels to Coast Guard, also on Tuesday for a 7pm NEWMAC match against the Bears.
