Kilburn Named NEWMAC Offensive Performer of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly award winners and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Kirsten Kilburn is among those selected. The senior captain was named the Offensive Performer of the Week in field hockey following a major record-setting game.

A native of North Branford, Conn., Kilburn scored three goals, including the game-winner, to lift the #19 Lyons to a 5-2 victory at Babson last week. The midfielder needed just four points to tie the all-time career points record at MHC prior to the game against the Beavers. With her six points on Saturday, Kilburn surpassed Shara Robertson '12 to become the Lyons all-time leader in points. She now has 161 points on 56 goals and a program-tying record 49 assists.

Through 12 games, Kilburn leads the NEWMAC with 14 assists, adding seven goals for a team-best 28 points. She has added a conference-high 70 shots (40 on goal) and has a team-high four game-winning tallies.

Among the nation's best, Kilburn ranks second in Division III in assists per game (1.17). She has also helped the Lyons rank among the best in the country in several categories, including 11th in assists per game (2.67), 16th in goals against average (0.99), 17th in points per game (10.00), 18th in penalty corners per game (12.33), as well as 21st in goals per game (3.67).

Highlights of her senior season thus far include a one goal and two assist effort in a 7-0 win over Castleton State. Kilburn also had the game-winning goal and two helpers in a 4-1 victory against Clark. Her three goals against Babson marked her first hat-trick of the season. She has posted two or more assists in five of 12 games played thus far.

The #19 field hockey team returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Worcester for a 4:30pm game against WPI. The Lyons then play at Western New England on Thursday (7pm), before hosting MIT in a critical NEWMAC game on Saturday at 1pm. That contest also marks the team's Senior Day!
