  • 2013-14 Field Hockey Year In Review

    From school records to All-Conference to All-Region and All-American, it was a banner year for the Mount Holyoke field hockey team in 2013. The Lyons, under the direction of 16th-year head coach Andy Whitcomb, posted an 18-3 overall record. The squad finished second in the NEWMAC with a 7-1 mark, returning to the conference tournament for an unprecedented 15th straight season.
  • Field Hockey Honored by the NFHCA

    The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team has been recognized by the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as one of the top academic teams in Division III. The Lyons also saw 15 student-athletes named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, while first year Liz DiCesare was named a Scholar of Distinction.
  • Andy Whitcomb Elected NFHCA President

    The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has announced the results of its recent election and Mount Holyoke College head field hockey coach Andy Whitcomb has been chosen as the organization’s next President. She becomes the first Division III coach to hold the title and begins her two-year term on January 1, 2014.
  • Field Hockey Duo Tabbed to ECAC All-Star Teams

    The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2013 Division III New England Field Hockey All-Stars and two Mount Holyoke College student-athletes have been recognized. Diana Banmann was selected to the First Team, while Kirsten Kilburn was a Second Team honoree.

    The 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-America Teams have been announced and Mount Holyoke College student-athletes Kirsten Kilburn and Diana Banmann were recognized. Kilburn was named to the Second Team, while Banmann was a Third Team honoree. Both garnered All-Region First Team recognition on November 18.
  • Four Named All-Region in Field Hockey

    The 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region Teams have been announced and four Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized on the New England East Region squad. Juniors Diana Banmann and Kirsten Kilburn were First Team honorees, while sophomore Sarah LaQuerre and first year Liz DiCesare earned nods on the Second Team.
  • Field Hockey Falls 1-0 in 2OT to Montclair State in NCAA Second Round Action

    Senior Jennifer Tafro scored at 87:23 of the second overtime to lift the Montclair State University field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College in the first game of the NCAA Tournament Second Round at Sprague Field on Saturday. With the victory, the top-ranked Red Hawks move to 21-1, while the Lyons conclude their outstanding season with an 18-3 mark.
  • Lyons Game Day Central: Field Hockey vs. Montclair State - NCAA 2nd Round

    The Lyons head to Montclair State University for an NCAA Tournament Second Round match-up against the Red Hawks - the nation and tournament's top-ranked team. Game time is set for 11am on Saturday on Sprague Field. This is just the second meeting between the two schools. MSU holds the advantage with a 3-1 win over the Lyons to close out the 2006 season.
  • Field Hockey Defeats Gwynedd-Mercy, 5-2; Advances to NCAA Second Round Action

    Four different players found the back of the net to lift the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy University in an NCAA Tournament First Round contest at the MHC Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Lyons improve to 18-2 overall and advance to the Second Round on Saturday against Montclair State at 11am.
  • Four Garner All-Conference Honors in Field Hockey

    The NEWMAC Field Hockey All-Conference Teams were recently announced and Mount Holyoke College saw four student-athletes recognized. Leading the charge was Liz DiCesare, who was selected the conference’s Rookie of the Year, while also being named to the Second Team along with Sarah LaQuerre. Earning First Team recognition were Diana Banmann and Kirsten Kilburn.
  • Field Hockey Earns At-Large Bid into NCAA Tournament; Will Host Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday at 4pm!

    The NCAA Division III Field Hockey Committee has announced the field of 24 teams which will compete in the 2013 NCAA Championship and Mount Holyoke College was one of five teams to earn an At-Large selection. It marks the third appearance in program history for the Lyons, who are ranked 16th in the nation, and the first since the 2003 season.
  • Field Hockey Suffers 1-0 OT Loss in NEWMAC Title Game; Earn At-Large Bid to NCAAs

    The Wellesley College field hockey team won the 2013 NEWMAC Championship with a 1-0 overtime victory over Mount Holyoke on Sunday. Wellesley moves to 17-3 overall with the victory, and will find out its NCAA Tournament first round opponent later tonight. MHC (17-2) awaits a possible at-large bid into the NCAA tournament.
  • Field Hockey Defeats MIT, 2-1; Advances to NEWMAC Championship Game on Sunday at 1pm

    Two first half goals and an eight-save performance by rookie goalie Liz DiCesare proved to be the difference as Mount Holyoke College defeated MIT, 2-1 in the second of two NEWMAC Field Hockey semifinals at Wellesley on Saturday. The second-seeded Lyons (17-1) now advance to Sunday's 1:00pm final against top-seed and host Wellesley.

    The Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Coaches Poll has been announced and Mount Holyoke College has once again rose in the rankings, climbing to 16th overall in this week's poll. The Lyons, who were 17th in last week's edition, also saw junior captain Kirsten Kilburn and first year Ruvimbo Mushavi earn NEWMAC Offensive and Defensive Performer of the Week, respectively.
  • #17 Field Hockey Posts 5-0 NEWMAC Win Over Wheaton; Secures 2nd-Seed For NEWMAC Playoffs

    Aided by a pair of goals from juniors Diana Banmann and Kirsten Kilburn, the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated Wheaton College, 5-0 in the NEWMAC regular season finale on Saturday. MHC improves to 16-1 and 7-1 in conference play, while Wheaton finishes 6-12 and 1-7 in the NEWMAC.

    A pair of goals and an assist from junior midfielder Kirsten Kilburn helped power the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Westfield State University on Tuesday evening. The Lyons, who are ranked 17th in the latest NFHCA DIII Top 20 Poll, improve to 15-1 on the season, while the visiting Owls move to 6-10 overall.

    The Lyons are back on home turf following a 6-2 victory at #19 MIT on Saturday. MHC welcomes the Owls from Westfield State - a match which is just the fifth all-time between the two squads, who first met in 1974 - a 5-0 Lyons win. Mount Holyoke holds the series lead at 3-1, which includes victories in each of the last two seasons, including 2011 (6-0) and 2012 (3-0).

    First year Charlotte Wagner produced a goal and three assists while junior Diana Banmann registered a hat-trick to lead the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team to a 6-2 victory over MIT in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday. With the win, the #18 Lyons improve to 14-1 and 6-1 in conference play, while the Engineers slip to 12-4 and 5-2 in the NEWMAC.

    First year forward Charlotte Wagner tallied a goal and two assists to propel nationally-ranked Mount Holyoke College to a 3-0 NEWMAC victory over visiting WPI on Tuesday evening. The Lyons, ranked 18th in the latest NFHCA Top 20, move to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. WPI is now 6-8 on the season and 1-5 in NEWMAC tilts.

    The Mount Holyoke field hockey team scored three unanswered goals to break open a 1-1 tie and held on for a 4-2 victory over Springfield College on Saturday afternoon in NEWMAC play on Stagg Field. The 20th-ranked Lyons improved to 11-1, 3-1 in league play, while the Pride drop to 3-8, 1-3 in league play after having its two-game winning streak snapped.

With the win, the 19th-ranked Blue move to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the 20th-ranked Lyons see their eight-game winning streak snapped and are now 8-1 and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.

    The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team broke into the national rankings on Tuesday as the most recent Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll was announced. The Lyons, who are undefeated through the first seven games, are listed 20th overall.

    Sophomore midfielder Julia Bell scored in the 49th minute and the tally held-up as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated Wesleyan University, 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening. The Lyons are now 8-0 on the season and have tied the program record for most consecutive victories in a season. The Cardinals slip to 2-4 overall.
