WORCESTER, Mass. - Powered by a two goal, two assist effort from junior captain Kirsten Kilburn, the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated Clark University, 6-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference action on Saturday. With the victory, the 20th-ranked Lyons improve to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Cougars are now 7-4 and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.

The Lyons jumped onto the scoreboard just 13:56 into the period as sophomore Anna Hartman chipped the ball in over the shoulder of the Clark goaltender off a pass from Kilburn. Junior Diana Banmann made it a 2-0 game for MHC less than three minutes later after she banged home another Kilburn pass.

It was Banmann once again under three mintues later as she poked home a loose ball in front to give the visiting Lyons a 3-0 lead. Kilburn nabbed a tally of her own at the 29:13 marked after she fired in a blast from the top of the arc that made its way through traffic for the 4-0 advantage.

Clark finally got onto the scoreboard with less than four minutes to play in the opening half as Talia Fish beat the goalie to the far right corner to make it 4-1 at halftime.

Kilburn continued the MHC offensive front in the second half, putting in a pass from first year Charlotte Wagner at the 51:17 mark. The Lyons wrapped up the game's scoring at 67:15 as sophomore Julia Bell banged in a feed from Banmann.

First year keeper Liz DiCesare earned the win in goal for the Lyons, stopping three shots. MHC then saw first year goalies Mariesa Mazzone (26:53) and Ally Tessier (8:07) combine for one save. Clark goalie Christine Tinsman made seven saves in the loss for the Cougars.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Tuesday with a 4:30pm NEWMAC game at Smith. Clark is also in action on Tuesday at conference-rival WPI at 7pm.
