Tennis Competes at Day 1 of NEWITT Tournament
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Day one of action at the 2015 NEWITT Tournament is in the books and the Mount Holyoke College tennis team saw a number of outstanding efforts on the afternoon.
In the opening round of action, senior captain Margaux Holloschutz and first year Ayame Yazawa took on the Trinity College duo of Aliev and Curtis, posting an 8-1 win. The pair moved on to the second round, but shouldered an 8-5 loss to MIT's Tzeng and Lai.
MHC junior Alexa Colas and sophomore Ishita Tibrewal suffered a tough loss to Springfields Shemms and Etter 9-8 (7-4). The pair went on to the West draw, defeating Colby's Ryan and Piibe, 9-7.
The Lyons duo of junior Amy Chen and first year Madison Rosen suffered an 8-2 loss to Amherst's Booth and Trapness. Moving on to the West bracket, the pair defeated Wheaton's Stanclif and Furber, 8-3.
Senior captain Michelle Cai and first year Clara Wang shouldered an 8-5 loss to Colby's Bogo and Pine. They suffered an 8-3 loss in the West bracket to Amherst's Peng and Fadulu, 8-3.
Rounding out the action on the day was sophomore Katherine Schumacher and Caitlyn Johnston lost to Simmons' Reinhard and Cokely,8-0
This year's NEWITT Tournament features all doubles match-ups, all played using an 8-game pro set. Action continues on Saturday at 9am at Smith College.
