Tennis Shoulders NEWMAC Loss at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday, shouldering a tough 9-0 loss at Wellesley College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The victory moves 31st-ranked Blue to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Lyons are now 4-1 and 2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Wellesley came out strong to open doubles action as the first flight team of Emily Olson and Justine Huang held on for an 8-6 win over MHC's Ayame Yazawa and Margaux Holloschutz. At two, the pairing of Carina Chen and Rosanne Hu posted an 8-2 win over Lyons' sophomore Ishita Tibrewal and junior Alexa Colas, while at three, Andjela Stojkovic and Tristan Lorich notched an 8-1 win over MHC's Amy Chen and Madison Rosen.

In singles action Stojkovic was the victor in the first flight, defeating Yazawa 6-3 in the opening set, before Yazawa was forced to retire at the 3-0 mark in the second set. Huang posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Holloschutz at two, while Tibrewal shouldered a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Chen at three.

Fourth flight action saw Olson grab a 6-0, 6-0 win over Colas, while at five, Lorich defeated MHC's Clara Wang by a 6-1, 6-1 margin. In the sixth flight, Hu recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win against Lyons' senior captain Michelle Cai.

The Lyons return to the courts on Saturday, hosting NEWMAC-rival MIT at 12pm.
