Tennis Posts 9-0 Victory at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - A strong effort from all ends of the lineup helped lead the Mount Holyoke College tennis team to a 9-0 victory at Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday.

Mount Holyoke opened with a doubles sweep as the first flight pair of Ayame Yazawa and Margaux Holloschutz notched an 8-3 win over the Pioneers' duo of Margaret Anne Smith and Samantha Peikes. The second flight saw Alexa Colas and Ishita Tibrewal notch an 8-2 win over Smith's Noa Dubin and Morgan Barney.

Rounding out the doubles action was the Lyons' third team of Madison Rosen and Amy Chen, who powered their way to an 8-1 victory over Pioneers' Joanna Kim and Annina Van Riper.

Singles action saw Yazawa cruise to a 6-3, 6-3 win against Dubin in the first flight. Holloschutz was a 6-0, 6-4 winner over Peikes at two, while Colas had a 6-0, 6-1 win against Barney at four. The fifth spot saw MHC's Clara Wang earn a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kim, while Michelle Cai was the winner at six against Smith's Van Riper.

The final match saw Tibrewal battle out a 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) victory against Smith in the third flight.

Both teams return to action this weekend, competing at the 2015 ITA Northeast Regionals, hosted by Middlebury College. The action begins on Friday and runs through Sunday.
