Tennis Posts 9-0 NEWMAC Win at Clark

PAXTON, Mass. - It was a clean sweep for the Mount Holyoke College tennis team on Saturday, defeating Clark University by a 9-0 margin in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

The victory moves the Lyons to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Cougars slip to 5-7 and 1-5 in the NEWMAC.

MHC opened the match with sweep of doubles. The first team duo of Margaux Holloschutz and Ayame Yazawa powered their way to a 9-8 (7-5) victory over Clark's Isabelle Long and Emily Shuman. In the second flight, MHC's Alexa Colas and Ishita Tibrewal were 8-3 winners over Phoebe Hughes and Adrien Horowitz.

Flight three saw Madison Rosen and Amy Chen take down Cougars' Rebecca Kravetz and Kera Snyder by an 8-1 margin.

Singles action saw Colas record the fourth point of the match, posting a 6-3, 6-0 win against Horowitz at four. Tibrewal then battled to a 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) win over Snyder at three. Yazawa followed in the first flight, recording a 6-4, 6-1 win against Long, while at two, Holloschutz was a 0-6, 6-0, 10-8 winner over Shuman.

Rounding out the efforts was MHC's Clara Wang, who notched a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win against Kravetz at five, while Rosen capped the day with her own straight set 6-0, 6-0 win against Clark's Misa Mai at six.

The Lyons return to action on Tuesday in a 5pm match at Springfield. Clark is also on the courts on Tuesday, hosting Smith at 5pm.
