Tennis Remains Undefeated; Blanks Emerson, 9-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. - It was another clean sweep for the Mount Holyoke College tennis team, which earned a 9-0 victory over Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday at the Babson College tennis courts. With the victory, the Lyons move to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, while the Lions of Emerson are now 0-2 overall and in NEWMAC action.

MHC got things going in the right direction to open doubles play. The team of junior Alexa Colas and sophomore Ishita Tibrewal recorded an 8-3 win over Emerson's Jamie CoConis and Tiziana Vazquez at one.

While the second doubles pair of junior Amy Chen and first year Madison Rosen then cruised to an 8-0 victory over Gilesa Thomas and Jamie Yates for the doubles sweep. The third doubles match was won by default.

In singles action, the Lyons picked up a default win in the sixth flight. Tibrewal posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over CoConis, while Colas downed Vazquez in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. First year Clara Wang went on to a 6-0, 6-0 win against Thomas, while senior captain Michelle Cai was the victor over Yates, 6-0, 6-0.

Rounding out the action was sophomore Katherine Schumacher, who defeated Lalin Tasa, 6-0, 6-0.

Mount Holyoke is right back in action on Sunday when it travels to Wellesley for an 11am match against the Blue. Emerson will face conference-foe Springfield next Saturday at 1pm on the Babson College courts.
