Swimming & Diving Defeats Vassar; Falls to Trinity

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Powered by a number of strong victories, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team split in tri-meet action against Vassar College and Trinity College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lyons defeated the host Brewers by a 161-13 margin, but fell to the Bantams, 152-136.

Leading the way for MHC was junior Cathleen Pruden, who notched three individual victories and posted a relay win. She won the 1000-freestyle in a time of 10:44.48 and then captured the 500-free with a mark of 5:21.98. Pruden rounded out the solo victories by touching the wall first in the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:13.09.

Pruden anchored the 200-freestyle relay team to victory in a time of 1:45.75. Other members of the relay included first year Zahra Alley-Baktoo and sophomores Anne Kuenning and Katie Tyler.

Kuenning also posted a win in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:02.77, while also finishing third in the 200-back with a mark of 2:20.30. Senior Maya Lazarovich was runner-up in several events, posting a time of 1:12.50 in the 100-breast and 2:37.41 in the 200-breast.

She also helped the 400-medley relay team to second in a time of 4:13.57. Other members of the relay included Kuenning, Tyler and sophomore Emily Craig.

Rounding out the solid finishes was Craig, who was second in the 200-free (2:02.45) and the 100-free (57.55), while Tyler was second in the 50-free (25.39).

In the diving events, junior Kelly Lim was third off both the 1-meter (155.40 points) and 3-meter (159.90pts).

The Lyons return to action this weekend when they host the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship. The meet begins on Saturday at 10am and runs through Sunday. Details for the championship, including the meet program, schedule, records and teams, can be found HERE.
