Swimming & Diving Falls to Assumption, 178-106

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Despite a three-win effort from junior Cathleen Pruden, the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team was not able to close the gap, falling to Division II Assumption College by a 178-106 margin on Friday evening. With the victory, the Greyhounds move to 3-0 in dual meet action, while the Lyons are now 0-1.

Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School) re-set her own school record in the 200-freestyle, posting a time of 1:55.03. Her previous mark, set last season, was 1:56.95. She also swam to victory in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:11.47. In her signature event, the 400-individual medley, Pruden posted a winning time of 4:33.07.

Other solid efforts for the Lyons included sophomore Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow), who won the 100-backstroke with a mark of 1:00.85. That time was just off the school record mark of 1:00.63.

Pruden and Kuenning, along with senior captain Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and sophomore Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass./Hopkins Academy) combined to finish second in the 200-medley relay. The foursome posted a mark of 1:53.63.

For Assumption, sophomore Rachel Gagnon (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) swam to victory in the 100-breaststroke, notching a time of 1:07.95. She also won the 200-breast with a time of 2:32.54 and helped the 200-medley relay team to victory with a time of 1:51.36. Other members of the foursome included junior Victoria Weber (Augusta, Maine/Cony), senior captain Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) and first year Carylyn Waite (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep).

Waite also claimed victory in the 50-freestyle (25.38) and the 100-free (55.05).

Mount Holyoke is right back in action on Saturday, traveling to the University of Saint Joseph for a 1pm meet. Assumption is also back in the pool on Saturday, hosting Pace and Roger Williams at 4pm.
