Swimming & Diving Defeats Simmons, 173-116

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Powered by multiple victories, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team bested Simmons College by a 173-116 margin in dual meet action on Saturday at the MHC Natatorium. The Lyons improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Sharks slip to 4-2 overall.

Fresh off her three win performance on Friday, junior Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School) once again dominated with four wins on Saturday. She won the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:57.58 and then swam to victory in the 500-free, winning by a nearly 16 second margin (5:25.66). Pruden then posted a time of 2:14.81, 11 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, to win the 200-individual medley.

Pruden also helped the 200-medley relay team to victory with a time of 1:54.02. Other members of the relay included sophomore Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow), senior Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and sophomore Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass./Hopkins Academy).

Kuenning went on to claim both the 50-backstroke (29.58) and the 100-back (1:02.56), while Tyler won the 100-butterfly (1:02.75) and the 50-fly (27.45). Additionally, senior Rachel Boynton (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) captured the 1,000-free (11:40.28), while first year Claire Beckett (Haslett, Mich./Haslett) won the 50-breaststroke (33.46).

The Lyons also saw junior diver Kelly Sin Ee Lim (Melaka, Malaysia/Taylor's College Sri Hartamas) post victory off both boards, winning the 1-meter with 154.70 points, and the 3-meter with 163.00 points.

For Simmons, the Sharks saw sophomore Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) post three victories. Individually, she captured the 50-free with a time of 26.00 and then won the 100-free with a time of 56.45.

She also helped the 200-free relay to victory in a time of 1:44.15. Other members of the relay included senior Chloe Davis (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack), Joleigh Ferro (Pittsfield, Mass./St. Joseph Central) and sophomore Miriam Swisher (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva).

First year Natalie Giraldi (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) captured the Sharks other individual victory, winning the 100-breast in a time of 1:10.68.

Mount Holyoke is back in action on Tuesday in a 1pm tri-meet at Vassar against the host Brewers and Trinity. The Sharks are right back in the water on Sunday, hosting Saint Joseph's (ME) at 1pm.
