Swimming & Diving Defeats Westfield State, 156-125

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Powered by a number of outstanding finishes, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team defeated Westfield State University by a 156-125 margin in dual meet action on Saturday. With the win, the Lyons improve to 2-1, while the Owls slip to 0-2.

The Lyons jumped out to a fast start as the foursome of Anne Kuenning, Sarah Crocker, Katie Tyler and Emily Craig won the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:58.54. MHC gained strong points in the 1000-freestyle as Willa Holmes claimed first (11:30.53), senior Maya Lazarovich was second (11:38.54) and first year Claire Beckett was third (11:55.78).

In the 200-free, senior Rachel Boynton captured victory with a time of 2:09.01, while Kuenning swam to victory in the 50-back with a mark of 29.74. The 50-breaststroke saw Beckett grab the win with a time of 34.07, followed by a win by Tyler in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:03.99.

Craig and first year Zahra Alley-Baktoo then went 1-2 in the 50-free with times of 26.80 and 26.90, respectively. Tyler was the victor in the 100-free with a mark of 57.79, while Kuenning grabbed another win in the 100-back, touching the wall in a time of 1:02.80.

Lazarovich won the 100-breast with a time of 1:11.96, while Holmes grabbed the win in the 500-free with a mark of 5:38.30.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they host Western Connecticut State at 1pm at the MHC Natatorium.
