Swimming & Diving Finishes 5th at Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Anne Kuenning took down another school record as the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team finished fifth overall at the 2014 Gompei Invitational, hosted by WPI. The Lyons, who were up against 12 other teams from across all divisions, saw Kuenning post her third record setting mark of the weekend.

Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow) opened the day in the 200-medley relay, helping the foursome to a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:53.90. In her opening backstroke leg, she posted a time of 28.36, which eclipsed the previous record, held by Lauren Williams '14 (28.61). Other members of the relay included senior Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington), sophomore Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass./Hopkins Academy) and junior Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School).

In her individual events, Kuenning finished fifth in the 50-back with a time of 28.69 and also placed fifth in the 100-back with a mark of 1:01.42.

Lazarovich went on to place 10th in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:36.80, while Pruden claimed victory in her signature event, the 400-individual medley, posting an NCAA B Cut time of 4:28.00.

The Lyons closed out the meet with the 400-free relay as sophomore Emily Craig (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili Senior), Kuenning, Tyler and Pruden combined for a time of 3:43.34 – good for sixth overall.

Assumption took home this year's title, posting a score of 3,114 points, followed by the host Engineers, who were runners-up with 2,731 points. Roger Williams was third with a score of 2202.5 points, followed by Bentley (1287 points) and Mount Holyoke (1238.5 points).

The Lyons are now idle until 2015 when they return to the pool to face Clark and Wheaton in tri-meet action in Worcester. The meet, which will take place at Clark, begins at 12:30pm.
