Records Fall at Day 2 of NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Day two of action at the 2015 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships has concluded and through 13 events, the Mount Holyoke College squad sits in eighth place overall. The Lyons, who saw a number of record-breaking performances on the day, has 164.5 points to end the second day.

The Lyons opened day two with a fifth-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay. The foursome of sophomores Katie Tyler, Emily Craig and Anne Kuenning, along with junior Cathleen Pruden posted a time of 1:38.77. That time eclipsed the school record mark of 1:39.73, previously set in 2013.

Pruden then went on to claim victory in the 200-Individual Medley, shattering her own school record in both the prelims and the finals. During the morning session, she posted a time of 2:06.83, besting her mark of 2:06.98 that was set at last year's National Championship. In the evening finals, Pruden charged to victory with a time of 2:05.41. Both times were also NCAA B Cuts.

In the 50-freestyle event, Tyler placed 13th with a time of 25.03, while senior Rachel Boynton was 16th in the 500-free with a time of 5:23.19.

The final event of the night saw the 400-medley relay team of Kuenning, senior Maya Lazarovich, Tyler and Pruden post a time of 4:03.27 to finish sixth overall. In the event, Kuenning also eclipsed her own school record in the 100-backstroke, posting a time of 59.02 to best her mark of 59.89 set last year.

Action at this year's championship continues on Saturday morning with the preliminaries beginning at 10am. Finals will take place beginning at 6pm. The meet concludes on Sunday.
