Swimming & Diving Bested at Wellesley, 171-118

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Despite several outstanding performances, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team shouldered a 171-118 loss on the road at Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon. The Blue improve to 7-1 in dual meet action this season, while the Lyons are now 5-3 overall.

Fresh off her nine-victories last week, junior Cathleen Pruden once again shined with three wins against Wellesley. She won the 1000-freestyle in a time of 10:38.48, which was 10 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Pruden then touched the wall first in the 500-free with a mark of 5:11.91 and the 200-IM with a time of 2:11.42.

Senior Maya Lazarovich posted victory in the 200-breaststroke, achieving a time of 2:33.20. She also finished second in the 200-butterfly with a mark of 2:15.47. Sophomore Emily Craig had a number of solid finishes, including third in the 200-free (2:03.91), while classmate Katie Tyler also had strong efforts, among them a second-place spot in the 50-free (26.17).

Sophomore Anne Kuenning had a number of outstanding swims as well, including third overall in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:03.53.

The Lyons return to action on February 7 when they host Smith College at the MHC Natatorium at 1pm. The meet is the final home event of the season for the Lyons, who will honor their seniors that day as well.
