Swimming & Diving Opens at Smith Relays

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team saw its 2014-15 campaign get underway on Saturday at the Smith College Relays. The event, which features a unique twist of relays throughout, featured the Lyons, the host Pioneers, Tufts University and Westfield State.

The 200-medley relay team of Anne Kuenning, Maya Lazarovich, Katie Tyler and Emily Craig kicked off the victories, posting a win with a time of 1:54.84. Craig then joined the foursome of Rui Nozaki, Rachel Boynton and Cathleen Pruden to win the 800-free relay with a score of 8:17.73.

In the 3x100 backstroke relay, the trio of Kuenning, Zahra Alley-Baktoo and Boynton combined for a time of 3:11.80 to win, while Lazarovich, Claire Beckett and Pruden were victorious in the 3x100 breaststroke relay with a mark of 3:34.88. In the 850 (50-100-200-500) relay, Boynton, Tyler, Lazarovich and Pruden combined for a time of 8:55.52 to win.

The Lyons then grabbed another victory in the 3x100 individual medley relay as Sarah Crocker, Beckett and Pruden posted a time of 3:18.15. Crocker, Beckett and Pruden then combined with Lazarovich to cap the Lyons final victory of the day, the 4x50 breaststroke relay with a mark of 2:14.53.

Mount Holyoke opens dual meet action on Friday, hosting Assumption College at the MHC Natatorium at 6:30pm.
