Pruden Makes History on Day 3 of NEWMAC Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Records continued to fall on day three of the 2015 NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by WPI. The Lyons, who are currently seventh after Saturday's action, saw three more records bested, including a meet shattering mark by junior Cathleen Pruden, who successfully defended her title in the 400-IM.

Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School) posted a time of 4:21.83 in this evening's finals, a mark that was not only a career-best and school record, but also the second-best time in Division III this season. She also shattered the NEWMAC Meet record from 2014, when she posted a time of 4:25.03. Additionally, Pruden's time also eclipsed the NEWMAC Open record of 4:22.84, which she set last season at the NCAA National Championships.

Also seeing outstanding success on Saturday was sophomore Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow), who placed sixth overall in the 100-backstroke with a time of 59.78. She also grabbed a pair of records in the 200-medley relay, helping the group to a school record time of 1:50.25.

Kuenning eclipsed her own program mark in the first leg – the 50-back – notching a time of 27.77 to best her mark of 28.36. Other members of the relay included senior Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and sophomores Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass./Hopkins Academy) and Emily Craig (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili Senior).

Craig also finished 12th in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:59.73, while Lazarovich was 19th in the 200-breaststroke with a mark of 1:09.96 and 16th in the 400-IM, touching the wall at 4:50.86.

Action at this year's meet concludes on Sunday with the final 13 events to be contested by the NEWMAC's best women and men's swimmers and divers.
