Cross country places fourth among 23 teams at Keene State Invitational

KEENE, N.H. -- The Mount Holyoke College cross country team had its top five runners all finish among the top 41 out of 191 runners overall, as the Lyons finished fourth among 23 teams Saturday at the Keene State Invitational.

With 141 points, Mount Holyoke beat out Westfield State (147) for fourth place and trailed only Wellesley (80), Brandeis (83), and Keene State (110), all of whom are ranked among the top 10 teams in the Division III East Region.

Junior captain Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) outraced Rhode Island College's Haley Oliver by a tenth of a second to finish third among 191 runners in the race, covering the 5-kilometer course in 18:44.5, leading the Lyons.

Senior captain Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) placed 18th (19:43.9), and Mount Holyoke's third, fourth and fifth runners finished in a pack in 39th, 40th and 41st places: junior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) was 39th (20:15.2), sophomore Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) was 4oth (20:15.9), and junior captain Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) was 41st (20:16.6), to round out the Lyons' team scoring.

First-year Anita Konopka (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) and Jane Miller-Arsenault (Middlesex, Vt.) were Mount Holyoke's scoring displacers, finishing 71st (21:16.3) and 75th (21:31.9), respectively.

The Lyons will next race in the Connecticut College Invitational, with races at 11am and 1pm on Oct. 14 at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn.
