DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College cross country team had a successful day at the 2017 UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, highlighted by junior Corrin Moss who led the Lyons for the second straight week.
Moss (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Alternative) crossed the line in 20:33.71 for 108th place out of 299 runners. Winning the varsity race was senior Abby Shafer from New England with a time of 17:53.13.
Sophomore Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) worked well with Moss, finishing 126th with a time of 20:48.03. Both Moss and Raney ran personal-best times.
Additionally, first year Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco) and sophomore Michelle Serrano (Los Angeles, Calif./West Adams Preparatory) each ran personal bests with times of 21:29.91 and 21:52.20, respectively for 161st and 183rd place.
Rounding out the varsity race was sophomore Kayla Dillon (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain Regional), who raced for the first time in seven months, and first year Olivia Wrobleski (Fall River, Mass./Bishop Stang). Dillon ran a time of 22:39.40 for 208th place, while Wrobleski was 210th, crossing the line in 22:44.20.
In the sub-varsity race, junior Emsie Cronin (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) led the way for the Lyons with a 29th-place finish. Her time of 21:20.79 was her personal-best by 1:08. Junior Victoria Parrish (Pleasantville, N.Y./Buram Hills) finished with a time of 24:51.20 for 111th place.
It was a smart and controlled focus for the Lyons right from the first mile. Pulling off a strong execution, the squad focused well on working in packs to move up against the competition.
Mount Holyoke is back on the course next Saturday when it competes in the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Action will begin at 12:30pm.
