Udangawa Wins Holleran South Consolation Finals

HANOVER, N.H. - Sophomore Nadindhi Udangawa defeated Dartmouth's Rebecca Brownell to win the consolation championship of the Holleran South Division at the CSA Individual Squash Championships on Sunday. 

Udangawa had an excellent start, winning 11-7 and 11-6 to go up 2-0. Brownell bounced back with an 11-9 win, but Udangawa closed out the game with an 11-9 victory in the fourth game to take the 3-1 win.

She grinded out a 3-2 win over Kimberly Krayacich of Amherst in the consolation semi-finals on Saturday. The effort advanced her to the finals on Sunday at 10:45am.

Udangawa got off to a slow start, losing the first two games 4-11 and 5-11, but showed a tremendous effort to win the next three. She was able to apply pressure with better execution of her drop shots and volley drops, which led to 11-9, 11-9, and 11-6 victories to secure a 3-2 win.

The Sri Lanka native fell 3-0 to senior Gabriella Garr of Princeton University in the opening round of the Holleran South Division on Friday.

Udangawa battled in the opening game, but eventually fell 11-7, followed by an 11-4 loss in the second game. Garr finished off the match with an 11-3 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.
