Squash Wins Opening Round Of CSA Championships

Lawrenceville, N.J. – The Mount Holyoke College squash team continued its momentum, picking up a 7-2 win in the opening round of the 2017 CSA Women's Team Championships over Vassar on Friday afternoon. MHC is currently on a five-game win streak, improving to 8-16, while Vassar falls to 10-4.

Mount Holyoke moves on to Saturday's semifinals of the Epps Cup (D Division) where it will face #25 Colby at 2:15pm, while Vassar will take on #32 Bucknell in the Epps Cup Consolation semifinals at 12:00pm. Both matches take place at Lawrenceville.

The match opened up the match with Nadindhi Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Colomba International School) securing an 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 victory over Isabelle Bertram (Salt Lake City, Utah/West) , followed by a hard fought  6-11, 11-2, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7 win from Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School) at the nine.

At the five, Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn./Ethel Walker School) put the team up 3-0 with an 11-2, 12-10, 11-2 win over Carly Scher, followed by Ragini Ghose (Dubai/Millfield School) who picked up an 12-10, 11-1, 11-4 win to go up 4-0.

Rose Minichiello (Collinsville, Conn./Canton) won the deciding match from the eight flight with an 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 victory over Emma Glickman, helping MHC to a 5-0 lead.

Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) put the Lyons up 6-0 from the fourth flight with a 12-10, 11-3, 8-11, 11-4 victory. Vassar picked up two wins from flights one and seven, but fell 7-2.
