Lyons Take Third In Epps Cup (D Division) at CSA Championships

Princeton, N.J. – The Mount Holyoke College squash team secured a third place finish in the Epps Cup (D Division) of the CSA Squash Championships after defeating Wellesley College, 7-2 on Sunday morning. The Lyons improve to 9-17, while the Blue falls to 8-12.

The Lyons opened up the match hot, winning its first four matches. At the three spot, Nadindhi Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Colombo International School) defeated Haley Connor (Boston, Mass./Milton Academy) by a score of 11-7, 11-4, 11-8, followed by a 3-0 (11-5, 6-11, 11-4, 11-3) win from Emily Chang (Carmichael, Calif./Mira Loma) to go up 2-0.

Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School) picked up an 11-3, 11-3, 10-12, 11-7 over Elena Ubeda (Natick, Mass./Winsor School) at the nine. Ragini Ghose (Dubai, Millfield School) helped the Lyons take a 4-0 lead with a 12-10, 11-6, 11-7 win over Eva Mullarkey (Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy) from the two spot.

 At the eight, Rose Minichiello (Collinsvile, Conn./Canton) won the deciding game (11-7, 11-7, 11-8) over Lumi Kinjo (Tokyo, Japan/St. Paul's School), while Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career Magnet) defeated Ruby Feng (Old Lyme, Conn./Phillips Exeter Academy) 11-1, 12-10, 11-7 from the five to go up 6-0.
 
Wellesley picked up its first win of the day at the four, but Tanishka Sachidanand (Karnataka, India/Canadian International School) bounced back at the seven to defeat Meredith Curry (Medfield, Mass./Noble and Greenough) 11-4, 12-10, 10-12, 12-10. The Blue won its second game at the top of the ladder after a hard fought 12-10, 5-11, 8-11, 13-11, 11-8 game, but still fell, 7-2.
Shilling, Chang, and Kirina Gair-MacMichael (West Hartford, Conn. / Ethel Walker School) each received the CSA Scholar-Athlete award.

Mount Holyoke will now wait for the announcement of selections to compete at the 2017 CSA Individual Championships, which will be held March 4-5.
