#28 Squash Suffers Tough Loss to #6 Yale

AMHERST, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College squash team was back in action on Monday, competing in neutral site action against Yale University at the Davenport Squash Courts on the campus of Amherst College. The sixth-ranked Bulldogs improved to 4-0 on the season, while the 28th-ranked Lyons moved to 2-9 on the year.

The match opened on the even side as Yale's Selena Maity posted an 11-2, 11-2, 11-1 win over MHC's Syry Mitchell in the eighth position. At six, Jocelyn Lehman bested Lyons' Rose Minichiello, 11-4, 11-0, 11-1.

From the fourth flight, Shiyuan Mao owned an 11-5, 11-2, 11-2, margin to defeat Lessly Portillo, while from the second position, Yale's Lucy Beecroft and MHC's Ragini Ghose played to a tough battle. The two went to the wire in the first two games as Beecroft won 11-9 in each. Despite the close margin, Ghose was unable to battle back, falling 11-4.

The odd's took to the courts next as Emily Sherwood and MHC senior captain Amanda Lee battled it out. Sherwood would take the match by an 11-5, 11-2, 11-4 score. At five, Yale's Jen Davis bested Tanishka Sachidanand, 11-0, 11-1, 11-3, while from the top position, Jenny Scherl posted an 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 win against Brandy Williamson.

At nine, in her season debut, Lyons' junior Emily Chang played strong against Yale's Ashley Suan, but was unable to get the victory in an 11-3, 11-4, 11-6 loss. Rounding out the action was the third position, which saw Yale's Celine Yeap square-off against MHC senior captain Allison Shilling. Yeap posted an 11-0 win in the opening game, going on to take the match with 11-4, 11-3 margins.

Mount Holyoke is back in action this weekend when it heads to Yale University for a pair of neutral site contests on Saturday. The Lyons will first take on St. Lawrence University (2pm) and will then play Connecticut College (3:30pm).
