BOSTON, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams have been announced and Mount Holyoke College saw three student-athletes recognized. Earning First Team recognition was Sara Sanaú Ruiz and Zoe Marshall, while Ashleigh Hartsock was a Second Team selection.
A native of Zaragoza, Spain, Sanaú Ruiz garnered First Team honors following a rookie campaign that saw her record a team-high 15 goals with an assist for 31 points. She notched 87 shots, including 40 on goal, and went 2-for-2 on penalty kicks. A starter in all 19 games for the Lyons, Sanaú Ruiz also posted five game-winning tallies, two of which came against NEWMAC opponents.
During the season, Sanaú Ruiz recorded at least one goal in 10 games, including four contests with two or more goals. Among her top efforts on the season came in a 3-1 win over Rensselaer as she netted her first career hat trick.
The former P.P. Dominicos - Cardenal Xavierre standout was among the NEWMAC's best in a number of categories, including second in goals and game-winning tallies. She also ranks third in both points, shots and shots on goal. Sanaú Ruiz was also a NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week honoree in September.
Marshall, a junior goalie and captain from Mississauga, Ont., earned her first year-end honor after finishing the season with an 8-6-3 record. In addition to a 0.96 goals against average, she also posted a .894 save percentage as a starter in 18 contests. Marshall made 144 saves over 1600:09 minutes of action and also posted five shutouts on the season.
A two-time NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week this season, Marshall ranks first in the conference in saves, as well as tops in save percentage. Among the NEWMAC leaders, she was seventh in goals against average and eighth in fewest goals allowed.
Among the top performances of the season for the Cawthra Park Secondary School graduate came toward the end of the year, recording 11 saves in a 1-1 tie against WPI in the regular season finale. Marshall also had a 10-stop effort in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals as the Lyons shouldered a 1-0 loss to third-seeded Babson. On the season, she made 10 or more saves in seven games, including a season-best 19 in a 2-0 victory at Emerson.
Named to the Second Team was Hartsock, a senior forward out of Stevensville, Md., who recorded six goals and five assists for 17 points. A starter in 18 games this season, she posted 32 shots, including 21 on goal for a .656 shots on goal percentage. Hartsock also went 1-for-1 on penalty kick attempts and had three game-winning goals.
This is the first year-end honor for the former Kent Island standout, who also ranks sixth in the NEWMAC in assists. Among her top efforts this season was in a 9-0 win over Bay Path where she recorded a hat trick and added an assist. For her career, Hartsock played in 56 games, including 42 as a starter, scoring 11 goals with nine assists for 31 points.
Mount Holyoke concluded its season with a 9-7-3 overall mark, recording the most wins for the team since the 1992 season. The Lyons also went 4-3-3 in NEWMAC play, earning the sixth-seed in the tournament, which marked their first berth since 2009.
