Hartsock Lifts Soccer to 1-0 OT Win at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Ashleigh Hartsock scored mid-way through the first overtime session to lift the Mount Holyoke College soccer team to a 1-0 win at Springfield College on Tuesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Springfield, which recently moved up to fifth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Regional Rankings, falls to 8-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play, while the Lyons improve to 9-5-1 on the year and 4-3-1 in the NEWMAC.

With just 4:39 to play in the overtime session, the Pride saw its keeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) come way out of the cage to play a ball that was cleared from the MHC defensive end. An errant pass to one of the Springfield defenders saw Hartsock (Stevensville, Md.) win the race to the loose ball and fire in a shot from 40-yards out that rolled in for the goal.

Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) finished the contest without a save as the Pride held a 35-1 advantage in shots, while her counterpart, Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ont.) posted 10 stops in the victory. Springfield also held a 10-2 margin in corner kicks.

Senior midfielder Brooke Hattinger (Weymouth, Mass.) led Springfield with nine shots in the contest, while classmates Nicole Fowler (Hudson, Mass.) and Jessica Miller (Southbury, Conn.) registered six apiece.

Hartsock (Stevensville, Md.) tallied her fifth goal of the season on MHC's lone shot in the contest.

Up next, Springfield will travel to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday to take on WPI at 2:30 p.m. Mount Holyoke is also in action on Saturday, hosting non-conference foe Bard at 1:00 p.m.
