Led by seventh-year head coach Kanae Haneishi, the Mount Holyoke College soccer team posted a 6-12-0 record in 2013. The Lyons also had a 1-9 mark in NEWMAC action.
The Lyons opened the season on a strong note, jumping out to a 2-0 mark behind victories over Nichols College and Lyndon State. Sophomore Ashleigh Hartsock had a breakout start, tallying a goal and two assists.
Following a defeat at the hands of Colby-Sawyer, the Lyons returned to the win column with a 5-1 victory at Southern Vermont. Tough losses at Western New England and Babson followed before MHC picked up their fourth win of the year, a 2-0 triumph against Bay Path.
Mount Holyoke shouldered a narrow loss to conference newcomer, Emerson, but rebounded with a 3-2 double-overtime win against MCLA, which saw sophomore Ali Rossi tip in the game-winner at the 102:54 mark of the contest.
A rough stretch of games through the second half of the schedule gave way to a solid win in the second-to-last game as MHC posted a 1-0 win over long-time rival, Smith. Junior Sana Barclay played the hero for the Lyons, netting the game-winner in the 79th minute.
Leading the Lyons was Hartsock, who recorded four goals with four assists for 12 points. Junior forward Kara Singleton posted 10 points on two goals and a squad-best six assists, while classmate and fellow forward Cassidy Robinson had four goals for eight points.
In goal, the Lyons saw three goalies trade action over the course of the season, led by first year Zoe Marshall, who posted a 3-9 record. She also finished second in the NEWMAC in saves (104) and was a Defensive Performer of the Week selection.
Classmate Alyssa Tabrisky boasted a 3-2 record, sporting a 1.36 goals against average, while junior Mackenzie Randall played in one contest.
Academically, the Lyons continued to see solid efforts off the field as senior captain Katie Dupuis, juniors Emily Quinlan and Hannah Yee, along with sophomores Ally Madden, Lily Rosenberg and Jessica Schiller were all named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team.
