DUDLEY, Mass. - Behind a pair of second half tallies from first year Autumn Buck and junior Cassidy Robinson, the Mount Holyoke College soccer team shutout Nichols College in the season opener for both teams. The Lyons got the goals mid-way through the frame and held on to remain undefeated over the last three season opening games.
After a scoreless first half, which saw the Lyons hold a 13-4 advantage in shots, MHC broke onto the scoreboard as Buck (Holyoke, Mass./Highland Regional) scored her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute.
Mount Holyoke continued to dominate in shots and it paid off in the 74th minute as Robinson (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon) added an insurance goal with a shot from 18 yards out into the top left corner.
The Lyons, who amassed 23 shots in the game to the Bison's six, saw Robinson, sophomore Ashleigh Hartsock (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) and junior captain Hannah Yee (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) record five shots apiece.
In goal, rookie Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park Secondary School) posted her first collegiate win and shutout, stopping six shots on the afternoon.
The Lyons are back in action on Monday with a 1pm contest at Lyndon State College. Nichols returns to the field on Wednesday, hosting Wheelock at 4pm.
