#15 Rowing Posts Strong Outing Against Assumption and Coast Guard

WORCESTER, Mass. – It was another solid day of action for the Mount Holyoke College rowing team, despite rainy conditions across the state. The 15th-ranked Lyons were back on Lake Quinsigamond, competing against Assumption College and the Coast Guard Academy. Leading the efforts on the day was the varsity eight, which powered its way to victory.

In the second race of the day, the varsity eight boat posted a time of 7:58.5, besting Coast Guard (8:00.0) and Assumption (8:52.8).

Comprising the varsity eight on Saturday was coxswain and senior Zoe Zelkowitz, junior Hannah LeBlanc, sophomore Casey Roepke, junior Elizabeth Hazen, first year Simran Kaur, first year Jocelyn Greer, first year Xena Ault, junior Lainie LaRonde and first year Audrey Shannon.

The second varsity eight kicked-off the day's action, facing Coast Guard. Despite putting up a solid time of 8:59.6, the Lyons were unable to get past the Bears – who had a winning time of 8:32.0.

In the 2V8 was junior coxswain Genesis Rocha, first year Sarah Lancaster, sophomore Molly Aslin, junior Halee Mahoney, sophomore Kate Dutilly, senior Sharlow Hitchcock, first year Amy Wang, first year Jillian Currier and first year Shoshi Daniels.

Mount Holyoke also saw two varsity fours take to the water on Saturday against Assumption. The Lyons' boats came in 1-2 over the Greyhounds, paced by the 'A' boat which featured first year coxswain Jaya Nagarajan-Swenson, Lancaster, Aslin, Hitchcock and Daniels. The Lyons 'B' boat took second, comprised of first year coxswain Jaia Colognese, first year Elle Bukosky, first year Katherine Dailey, Dutilly and first year Claire Gabel.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday, back on Lake Quinsigamond, for the 2019 NEWMAC Championship which will be hosted by Clark University. Races begin at 8:30am.
