WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its weekly award winners for the period ending February 25th and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Deyscha Smith was recognized. A junior on the Lyons lacrosse team, Smith earned the conference's Offensive Athlete of the Week honor, following an outstanding effort in the team's season-opening victory over Gordon College.

An attack from Boston, Mass., Smith was outstanding in the Lyons 16-8 victory against the Fighting Scots on Saturday, scoring four of her game and career-high five goals in the opening half to give Mount Holyoke a commanding lead. Three of her tallies came in the first eight minutes of the contest. In addition to having a 83.3% shot percentage and a perfect shot on goal percentage, she also scored to lead off the second half, assisted on the ensuing goal, while adding two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

The former Academy of the Pacific Rim standout has played in 23 games during her career, amassing one goal before her five-goal effort against Gordon. Her first goal of her career came in 2016 during a 17-3 victory over NEWMAC-rival, Coast Guard. With her five goals, Smith currently leads the conference in scoring, while also ranking second in overall points (6).

Mount Holyoke (1-0) returns to the field on Wednesday when it travels to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for a 6pm match at Skidmore. The Lyons close out the week on Saturday in a 12pm contest at Bridgewater State.
