BOSTON, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Amanda Manaster was recognized in soccer. The junior goalkeeper was named the co-Defensive Athlete of the Week for her efforts in helping the Lyons to an 0-1-1 mark in conference action last week.
Manaster, who hails from Beverly Hills, Calif., posted 25 stops and a goals against average of .92 on the week in helping the Lyons earn a point in NEWMAC action. Highlighting her week was a 17-save effort as MHC tied Clark, 0-0 in double-overtime. She also recorded eight stops in a tough 2-0 loss to WPI to close out the week.
Currently, Manaster owns a 2-10-2 record with a 3.17 goal against average as a starter in all 14 contests. Her 17-save performance against the Cougars marked her fourth-consecutive double-digit save effort in a row and the eighth time this season that she has notched 10 or more stops. The former Beverly Hills High School standout is currently first in the NEWMAC in saves, boasting 144 on the year - a 44 save differential from second place in the conference. She is also second among the league's keepers in minutes played, having been between the pipes for the Lyons for 1306:19 minutes.
As of October 11, Manaster also ranked 20th in Division III in saves per contest with a 10.46 average. Updated numbers are expected to be released early this week.
This marks the first NEWMAC honor for Manaster, who took over in goal following the graduation of Zoe Marshall. Last season, Manaster boasted a 1-0-0 record, recording 10 saves in four games played. She recorded 161:06 minutes of action played, owning a goals against average of .56 and a save percentage of .909. Additionally, she also notched three combined shutouts on the year with Marshall.
Mount Holyoke returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Rensselaer for a 7:15pm contest against the Engineers.
