Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for February. 5th

RIDING

MHC was idle this past weekend, but returns to competition on February 10th for an invitational at the University of Rhode Island.


SWIMMING & DIVING

Mount Holyoke concluded its home slate last Saturday as they fell to Simmons College, 212-88 on senior day. The Lyons shined in the diving well as sophomore Samantha Nemivant finish atop the standings off the 1-meter board and the 3-meter board with scores of 251.60 and 252.20, respectively. As a team, MHC had 12 top-three finishes for the day. Mount Holyoke returns to action on February 10th in a 1pm dual meet at Smith College. SQUASH

Mount Holyoke had a strong weekend, winning the Seven Sisters Championship for the second consecutive year, besting Wellesley, 9-0 and Vassar, 7-2. The victory also marks the 10th championship in program history. Senior captains Brandy Williamson and Emily Chang, along with junior Lessly Portillo represented Mount Holyoke (6-10) on the All-Tournament Team. The Lyons return to action on Wednesday to face Amerst College on the road at 6:00pm.



BASKETBALL

The Lyons suffered a loss to Wellesley College at home on Saturday.  Senior Kate Rawson had a strong performance with a team-best seven points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Rawson's performance on the boards eclipsed her previous best of 15 that she recorded against St. Joseph University on December 12, 2017. Mount Holyoke (0-20; 0-12 NEWMAC) will hit the road on Wednesday for a dual against conference foe MIT at 7:00pm. TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke had a solid week, starting with a solid performance from sophomore Charleen Theroux on Friday in the Tufts Cupid Challenge Pentathlon. Theroux placed second with a total score of 3,020, only trailing a Division I opponent from Yale. On Saturday, the team competed at the Wesleyan Invitational, securing five finishes in the top 10. Mount Holyoke is back in action next Saturday when in heads to Cambridge, Mass., taking part in the Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT.
