Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 24th

RIDING

The Lyons will be idle until May 4th after a first place showing in the Zone 1 Championship to advance to the IHSA National Championships in Lexington, Kentucky.

TRACK & FIELD

Mount Holyoke were back in action last weekend at Bowdoin's Aloha Relays. First year Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif.) posted a strong finish in the steeplechase, earning a third overall with a time of 13:03:44. The Lyons will be back in action next Saturday at the NEWMAC Championships hosted by MIT. Action will begin at 11:00am.

LACROSSE

Mount Holyoke suffered losses to Connecticut College and Wellesley last week. The Lyons were paced by a four goal effort from junior Kaitlin Braz (Tolland, Conn.), who netted three in the narrow NEWMAC loss to the Blue on Saturday. Mount Holyoke (3-12; 1-6 NEWMAC) concludes its regular season schedule at home on Wednesday, hosting Smith College at 6pm on the Turf Field.

GOLF

Mount Holyoke concluded its season at the 2017 Liberty League Championships last weekend, finishing second overall in the seven-team field. The Lyons saw three players named to the All-Liberty League Second Team for their performances, including senior captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn.) and first years Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif.),  who were sixth, ninth and 10th, respectively. MHC concludes its season having finished sixth or better in seven of eight invitationals this season.

ROWING

The Lyons were back in action against Coast Guard last weekend on the Thames River. MHC's varsity eight boat topped the Bears in their race by a nearly 20 second margin. Mount Holyoke returns to the water on Saturday when it travels to Lake Quinsigamond (Worcester, Mass.) to compete in the 2017 NEWMAC Championships. Action is set to begin at 8:30am with the fourth varsity eight race and runs through 9:15am with the start of the varsity eight event.
