Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Oct. 3rd

SOCCER

Mount Holyoke went 1-1 last week, besting Bay Path (7-1), before falling to MIT (2-0) in NEWMAC action. Junior Jamie Collings (Gainsville, Fla.) netted a pair of goals in the victory over the Wildcats.  MHC (5-5-0; 0-3-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Clark at 6pm. The Lyons conclude the week on Saturday in a 2pm home clash against Wellesley.

FIELD HOCKEY

The field hockey grabbed victory in its only game last week, besting Clark (5-1) in NEWMAC play. Senior Charlotte Wagner (West Chester, Pa.) paced the way for the Lyons, recording two goals, including the game-winner, with an assist. MHC (4-4; 1-1 NEWMAC) is back in the field on Tuesday when it hosts Smith at 7pm. The Lyons cap the week with a 12pm home bout with Springfield.

TENNIS

Mount Holyoke defeated Clark (9-0) in its only match last week. The Lyons were led by multiple victories in the contest, including from sophomore Ayame Yazawa (Toyoke, Japan), who won at both first flight doubles and singles. The Lyons (6-2; 4-2 NEWMAC) are back in action on Tuesday when they host Springfield at 5pm. MHC then travels to Babson on Saturday to conclude the NEWMAC regular season in an 11am match-up.

 

VOLLEYBALL

The Lyons suffered losses to Wellesley (3-0), Clark (3-0) and Rhode Island College (3-1) last week. Sophomore Jamesa Allen (Orlando, Fla.) recorded 20 kills on the week for MHC. Mount Holyoke (2-10; 0-6 NEWMAC) is back on the court on Tuesday, traveling to Wellesley for a 7pm match. The Lyons conclude the week on Saturday in tri-match action at Clark, facing the host Cougars (11am) and Rhode Island College (1pm).

CROSS COUNTRY

The Lyons ran at the Saratoga Invitational last weekend, finishing 10th overall. Sophomore Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio) led the Lyons' overall, finishing 49th in the field of 157 runners. MHC returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Boston to compete in the Open New England Championships. Race time is set for 12pm.

 

GOLF

The Lyons golf team traveled to Williamstown to participate in the Williams Fall Invitational last weekend. MHC finished 11th overall and were paced by senior captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn.), who placed 26th overall as an individual. Mount Holyoke is back on the links this weekend when it travels North to compete in the Middlebury Invitational. Action begins on Saturday at 1pm, with Sunday's final round starting at 9am.

 

RIDING

The Lyons kicked-off their regular season schedule last weekend, claiming victory at the Williams College Show. MHC was led by senior Allee Platanitis (Granville, Mass.), who was named Overall High Point Rider, as well as High Point Intermediate Rider. Mount Holyoke returns to action on October 15 when it heads to Northampton to compete at the Smith College IHSA Show.
