SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Karagan Bulger scored both goals for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as the Bears dealt the Mount Holyoke College soccer team a 2-1 defeat in NEWMAC action on Senior Day Saturday afternoon on the MHC Soccer Field.

Coast Guard (4-10-2, 3-4-2 NEWMAC) moved into a three-way tie for fifth place in the conference with Smith and Clark, while Mount Holyoke dipped to 3-9-2 overall and 1-8 in NEWMAC play.

Bulger scored on a backwards header in the eighth minute after a corner kick from Sidney Palinkas, surprising both sides as the ball bounced off the back of her head and volleyed over Mount Holyoke starting goalie Shannon Breen's (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) reach for a 1-0 Coast Guard lead.

The Lyons tied the game in the 22nd minute as sophomore Ada Siepmann (Vlotho, Germany) tracked down a long lead pass from junior Avery Livingston (La Grange, Ill.), then maneuvered around a Bears defender along the right baseline before unloading an upper-net shot with her left foot. The goal gave Siepmann the team scoring lead with four.

Coast Guard came back with the winning goal in the 63rd minute. Mia Forti beat two Lyons for the ball near midfield along the left sideline, and passed to a wide-open Bulger on the right side of the penalty area, where Bulger lined up a 15-foot shot past defenseless Mount Holyoke sophomore goalie Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.).

Coast Guard had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks and 21-16 edge in shots attempted, but Mount Holyoke had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.

Coast Guard starting goalie Emily Scharnitzky allowed one goal and made two saves. Julia Little also made two saves in 12 minutes of action, relieving Scharnitzky after the starter was shaken up in a collision.

Govea made two saves for Mount Holyoke.

Mount Holyoke will host Keene State Monday at 7pm in a makeup game originally scheduled Sept. 6.
