NEW LONDON, N.H. -- Junior forward Hannah Ellis scored her first career goal to even the score, and the Mount Holyoke College soccer team came away with a 1-1 tie in a non-conference game at Colby-Sawyer College on Monday.

In the 54th minute of the game, Ellis (Londonderry, N.H.) ran up to a well-placed ball from first-year Dena Yousuf (Ottawa, Ontario) on the left side of the penalty area and punched it into the goal to tie the score for the Lyons (2-3-2).

Sophomore Ada Siepmann (Vlotho, Germany) helped set up the score by blocking a clearing attempt by a Colby-Sawyer defender, whereupon the ball came out to Yusuf for the one-touch assist. The assist was the second of the season for Yusuf.

Colby-Sawyer (6-1-2) grabbed the lead in the third minute of the game, with Bridget O'Connell scoring her ninth goal, with assists credited to Lauren McKee and Ellie Smith.

Mount Holyoke held a 15-13 advantage in shots, while the host Chargers had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The tie ends a five-game winning streak for Colby-Sawyer and a three-game skid for Mount Holyoke.

Sophomore Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) made six saves for the Lyons. Lyndsey Valletta made four saves in the first half for the Chargers, and Alexos Lebreton made four saves while allowing the game-tying goal in the second half.

The Lyons will return to action on Saturday at 2pm, as they host Salve Regina in their first home NEWMAC game of the season.
