Mount Holyoke soccer opens season with scrimmage and three home games

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College soccer team will open its 18-game regular season with three consecutive home games beginning on Sept. 1, and preceded by a home scrimmage on Sunday, Aug. 27.

Mount Holyoke will host a scrimmage with Elms College this Sunday at 11am on the MHC Soccer Field. The Lyons' official season begins five days later, on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7pm with a non-conference home game against Eastern Connecticut State. That game will be followed by home dates against Massachusetts Maritime Academy (Sept. 4) and Keene State College (Sept. 6), and their first road game at Wentworth Institute on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Mount Holyoke opens league play in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) at MIT on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1pm. The Lyons' league schedule expands this year to 11 games, in order to accommodate new conference addition Salve Regina University. Mount Holyoke hosts Salve Regina on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Led by third-year head coach Breena Proctor and assistant coach Vasiliky Rizos, the Lyons are captained this season by senior Echo Haverkamp (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Anna Kennedy (Glendale, Wis.), and junior Sonia McCollum (Oakland, Calif.).
