SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Rhode Island College broke a scoreless tie with two goals late in the first half, then controlled the second half in a 4-0 non-conference victory over the Mount Holyoke College soccer team on Monday night at MHC Soccer Field.

The visiting Anchorwomen (4-1-1) won their third straight game and handed Mount Holyoke (2-2-1) its second loss in as many days, following Sunday's 2-0 loss at No. 11 MIT.

The host Lyons appeared to have the upper hand for most of the first half, and they had a 5-3 advantage in shots attempted before RIC took the lead in the 42nd minute, when Taylor Salome took off on a breakaway with a midfield pass from Marissa Ruzzano and scored her first goal of the season.

Two minutes later, Ruzzano made it a 2-0 lead against the stunned Lyons, when she was able to settle the ball 10 yards in front of the goal after a corner kick, turned and drove the ball into the upper corner of the net for her third goal of the season.

Mount Holyoke led RIC in shots 6-5 at the half, but RIC outshot the hosts 9-0 in the second half.

A foul called on Mount Holyoke in the 52nd minute set up a free kick from 20 yards out by Karen Johnson-Hoffman, and the sophomore defender drilled a left-footed shot past the Lyons wall and into the upper left corner of the goal for a 3-0 Anchorwomen lead.

After back-to-back corner kicks by Mount Holyoke resulted in no shots attempted by the Lyons, RIC made it 4-0 with a goal by Jenna Soden in the 65th minute, set up with a pass on the left side of the box from Tayshia Cary after another free kick was awarded to the Anchorwomen from fairly close range.

Chloe Angelone made two saves for RIC in the shutout. First-year keeper Evie Krieg (Frisco, Texas) made two saves in the first half for Mount Holyoke, and sophomore Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) made five saves in the second half.

Mount Holyoke will return to NEWMAC play at Emerson College on Saturday at 1pm.
